Part 7
With long strides, Jace soon found a place suitable to stop and rest. He didn't want to
travel too far since the girls still were restrained by ropes, and probably very
uncomfortable, but he wanted to get as far away from the tiny city as possible. Luckily
it didn't take long due to the incredible distance he was able to cover, at least from
the perspective of Maia and Acadia.
Still holding them to his chest, he settled into a comfortable position on the ground
amidst some foliage he was able to find. Much of his anger had subsided by now, just left
with the gnawing of irritation. His eyes and heart softened when he turned his attention
back to his hand, but his face quickly turned to a frown. Before he did anything else, he
wanted to free them from the ropes that were twisted around their fragile bodies, but the
ropes were barely more than threads to him. Lowering them to his lap for a moment, he
took a deep breath and wondered how on earth he was going to get them untangled without
harming them.
Maia and Acadia were held silent, as well as unmoving. Even if they had the ability to
scream, they wouldn't have. This day had been the longest of their life, and while they
were happy to not have baked to death in the sun, it was far from over. It was also far
from knowing whether they would be safe or not. Now they lay in the lap of an
extraordinary being, whose size reached beyond the bounds of their imaginations.
Struggling to look at each other, they took in each other's wide and questioning eyes.
Neither of them had any idea of what to think about this giant who had repeatedly saved
them, but for what reason?
He stared down at them now, unmoving for a few moments. Although, unmoving wasn't
necessarily the right word. Everything about him moved. His leg muscles twitched beneath
them. His chest which soared above them rhythmically expanded and contracted. Faintly,
they could hear his mammoth heartbeat, and above that, the steady airflow of his breath.
Acadia looked away, trying to ignore the very thing that overwhelmed her senses. Maia
squirmed uncomfortably beneath his gaze, feeling the intensity of his scrutiny. It was
hard being the object of focus from someone so…..big.
Everything began shifting, as it always did when he chose to move. In Maia's peripheral
vision she caught sight of his arm muscles flexing, bulging, and moving towards what she
could only guess was the side of his hip.
The sounds of shifting fabric brushed her ears.
His hand reappeared, clutching an object too large for Maia to clearly recognize. Her
ears registered a muffled gasp and a halt in Acadia's breathing. Obviously she had
recognized it and her reaction spurred Maia's sleep deprived brain to focus. The giant
removed the sheath and revealed the gleaming of silver metal. A knife. Well, it was
probably a small pocket knife, but this knife could slice them in half without
hesitation. Was he going to kill them? Her own reaction surprised her…she didn't care at
all. After the complete hellspin of the last few days, she nearly welcomed death. She was
tired of the emotional roller coaster of near death experiences and just barely being
able to survive them. With the knife in one hand, he began to reach down to pick up Maia.
Her vision was completely obscured by the gigantic appendage and she lay still, uncaring,
as it came so close that the warmth radiated around her body. Ever so slowly, his fingers
wrapped around her body. His skin was soft, but rough at the same time. Leathery? She
wondered if he was moving so slowly to torture her, making the end drawn out instead of
killing her quickly. At the same time, she was amazed at how easily she fit into the
crevice of his palm, completely surrounded. Maia's stomach sank as she was lifted upward
and brought, much too closely for her comfort, to his face. His breath fell across her
body……she could see her reflection in his warm brown eyes. How pitiful she looked.
Maia felt herself trembling, then realized it wasn't her trembling at all. His hand was
shaking. Why would he be the one that was shaking? Wasn't he the one in control here? The
giant took another deep breath and the breeze blew across Maia's body once again, but she
kept her eyes trained on the knife. His mouth opened and a rumbling blast of words came
out. Ugh, she was much too close to him for him to speak like that! What was he saying?
She wished she could understand him. The strange language he spoke just made him that
much more alien and monstrous.
The tip of the knife made its way towards her, and she squeezed her eyes shut and began
struggling, fighting against her restricted movements. Acadia could be heard below,
yelling against the gag in her mouth.
"Shhhhh….shhhhh" A whoosh of air, the giant made soothing noises towards Maia and placed
an oversized pointer finger on her chest, indicating that she should be still. She was
confused as ever. Then, swiftly, the tip of the knife slipped under the rope and sliced
through it easily. She watched in amazement as it fell away from her body. Maia sat up
and ripped the gag away from her mouth, taking in a deep breath. Looking up, she saw that
a wide grin had settled over the giants teeth. Shuddering slightly, she backed up, only
to push her back into his curved fingers. Still too close for comfort. Before she knew
it, Acadia had been placed next to her, and Maia quickly got to work releasing her
sister. Obviously the giant had no intention on repeating his actions with the knife.
Maia surmised that the shaking had been due to his fear of hurting her. She wasn't sure
how to handle this information any more than more than she would have been able to handle
that he wanted to kill them.
So they were safe for the time being…..kinda. Safe as they could be around someone who
could kill them by accident any second. Also, just because he didn't kill them didn't
mean he didn't have other plans in mind for them. Maia turned back around after she freed
her sister.
"What are you? What do you want with us?" She yelled as she gained a bit of bravery and
craned her neck.
"Are you crazy?" Acadia hissed, too quietly for the giant to hear.
His eyes grew wide, obviously shocked by her ability to speak. He hadn't heard anything
pass their vocal cords but shrill little screams. Then he relaxed back into a smile,
shook his head, and (remembering to whisper this time) muttered more unintelligible
things. His answer vibrated their bodies, down to their bones. Maia didn't know what he
was saying still, but she realized he didn't understand them either.

"This is pointless." He groaned and sat down, leaning himself back against a sturdy elm tree. Above him was the sudden rus

Humans.
Humans cannot speak. Now as far as I knew at least. I stole a look at my twin brother Shai who still was standing over the frightened little girl in between us. Couldn't he see how scared she was of us? I was trying my best to be slow and gentle with my movements and keeping my voice low, but Shai wasn't attempting to change anything to make us seem any less monstrous.
I didn't know that humans could talk but I knew that my brother didn't see humans as anything more than small and easily frightened animals. However, even his face was a shocked now. Gratefully, he lowered himself to a crouch, now concealing both of us behind

I Was the First Chapter 3
"Well do something!" the scarier giant shouted to the one behind me. "How else are we going to know if she can talk?!"
"I
I can't," the kinder one said in an almost pitying voice. "I can't just grab her. She's not some animal."
"She
she is a human! They are practically the same as most rodents!" he shouted, dumbfounded. How could these giants think about humans that way? I was shocked to realize that they probably both believed these horrible ideas. I was the same as them, being only considerably smaller. We both wore clothes, we both could articulate our thoughts and feelings, I should just explain all of this to them bu

I'm loving the language barrier! It adds so much to the story, and it makes for a rather difficult inconvenience on all their parts~
