Jace, known to others as Jacob, squinted at the blinding sand at his feet as his mouth
hung slightly open in shock. At first he thought the hot sun had been playing tricks on his
head. He was, after all, tired from constantly traveling. Jace loved to travel, but he was
trying to get through the scorching terrain as fast as possible so he could reach a more
pleasant landscape. In his rush he nearly stepped on the two small humanoids that he now
carefully looked over. He wasn't even sure what it was that caught his attention, but now
he was fascinated, and grateful for whatever did. One of the small females (he guessed)
didn't appear to be conscious as she laid on her side, unmoving. The other was definitely
awake. No doubts about that. In a terrified frenzy, she yanked on the small chain that
bound her to a small stick which was upright in the sand. Jace was thoroughly confused
about this odd little sight. What where they? It wasn't possible that they were humans, was
it? They were only several inches tall, barely the length of his pinky finger. No matter
what they were, what were they doing here like this? Obviously they were tied against their
will and had been here for a day or two. The tiny girls were caked in dirt and he guessed
their health was deteriorating due to the constant sun exposure. There was no sense he
could make of it. Even if there was, this wasn't supposed to be happening. He had never
heard of beings like this existing.
After a moment of thought he decided it would be best to at least release them. Whatever
it was, it wasn't good and he had to do something about it. Should he talk to them? Would
it be silly to do so? After all, he wasn't even sure if they were human.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you." He stated simply.
As soon as Jace began to raise his hand, the tiny girl let out an equally minute scream. He
retracted his hand immediately and wiped the sweat from his forehead as he thought for
another moment. There would probably be no way around not scaring her more than he had
already. He didn't blame her though and he felt odd. Jace had never felt so powerful
or...well...ridiculously big before. He could hurt them easily if he wasn't careful. He
peered at the tiny chains and thought how it would be best to release the girls with his
big, and seemingly clumsy fingers.
Carefully, he reached forth again and ignored the resulting screams and struggling. With
ease, he snapped the chains that nearly crumbled in his fingers. His brow furrowed as he
gazed at the unconscious female. What to do now? He couldn't very well leave her. As his
eyes flitted to the second female he found that, instead of running away, she now eyed him
carefully. She was obviously still frightened because he noted that her tiny chest was
still heaving.
The sun was beginning to dip lower on the horizon, allowing the air to cool ever so
slightly. He had to be on his way again soon, but he still hesitated torn in his decision
making. The one female seems to be okay, I suppose I should leave her be. I'd rather not
though.....this is far too interesting to just leave behind. However......I can't leave the
unconscious one. I'll take her and nurse her back to health and let the other one go.
Jace felt satisfied with that decision. Ever so slowly, he nudged the sleeping girl onto
his palm and stood up. For a moment he was just amazed as he took in the fantastical sight
of the impossibly small person nestled in his palm. A smile crossed his face, then slowly
disappeared as he realized what terrible condition this little person was in. He must find
water for her right away. Jace began to walk in a direction which he was pretty sure held a
natural spring. After a few steps he glanced back and saw that the other female he had left
behind was following him. He stopped and smiled again. That was all the convincing he
needed to obtain his second travel buddy.
Maia cowered as the giant stood back up, his body shooting into the air. Now her
horror turned from her fear of him to a new sensation. He had her sister! She couldn't
adequately see what he was doing from such an awkward vantage point but she knew that he
held her sister in his hand. Immediately, the world began to shake again as he began to
walk. Each of his steps carried him an immense distance away from Maia. Against every
instinct she had, she began running after him, stumbling over each time his footstep
thudded against the earth. She knew she wouldn't last very long at this rate. Maia was
dehydrated and she would not be able to keep up with him long enough for it to matter.
Suddenly the giant stopped and she felt his gaze fall upon her. Her breath stopped in her
throat and she froze. Maia just wanted her sister back. She just wanted this whole
terrible, surreal nightmare to be over. Now, she began to shake again as his hand lowered
quickly, and even more abruptly his palm crashed around her. Maia couldn't even scream as
she was encased in his hand and felt her stomach drop as she was whipped up to incredible
heights. Gently, but not with too much care, he deposited her into the hand that contained
her sister. She through herself over her sister's sleeping body, hugging her feverishly.
Then her present situation crept further into her consciousness.......and she slowly looked
up into the face of the smiling giant.
Oh wow! That was scary! Haha. Wow, I can't wait for the next one!!
